Glasson Earns Stamp of Approval from Anti-Gun Violence Organization

Cathy Glasson is the sole Iowa gubernatorial candidate to receive the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction for “standing up for gun violence prevention and recognizing gun safety.” Glasson has made addressing gun violence and enacting common sense gun legislation in Iowa a major part of her campaign for the Democratic nomination for Governor.

Cathy Glasson has signed a pledge to not accept a penny in campaign cash from the NRA. She has proposed a comprehensive plan to address gun violence including:

· Using Iowa’s universities and research institutions to study the public health impacts of gun
violence, so we can help develop the best solutions to prevent future tragedies.
· Universal background checks for all firearm sales in Iowa.
· A ban on high-powered assault weapons.
· A ban on bump stocks.
· A 72 hour waiting period for all gun sales.
· Raising the minimum age for gun purchases to 21.

“Last November, in Grinnell the hometown of the President of the NRA, I introduced our bold, progressive plan for common sense gun laws in Iowa,” said Cathy Glasson. “Since then, hundreds of children have been killed or injured by gun violence across the country. I’m proud to stand with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense and to walk shoulder to shoulder with the young people leading the March for our Lives. As Governor, I’ll join them in standing up to the NRA to say: Enough is enough!”

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for new and stronger solutions to lax gun laws and loopholes. Since its inception after the tragedy at Sandy Hook School, Moms Demand Action has established a chapter in every state of the country and, along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Everytown Survivor Network, is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with more than four million supporters.
