Iowans Protest Army Corp Decision to Grant Final Pipeline Easement
By Scott Galindez
A group of Iowans from the Bakken Pipeline Coalition, Iowa CCI and Bold Iowa met with representatives of Senators Charles Grassley and Joni Ernst. The group was protesting the Army Corps of Engineers announcement that it would follow President Donald Trump’s orders and grant the final easement to the pipeline company, Energy Transfer Partners. In the past week, groups representing farmers, landowners, tribes, environmentalists and climate activists have collected hundreds of thousands of comments to be delivered to the Army Corps during the open-comment period of the environmental review. The Army Corp’s decision ends an environmental review ordered by former President Barack Obama.
Other events took place in cities nationwide, including Iowa City, Washington, D.C., New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, and Los Angeles.
